Cheapest Flights to Sydney

Going to visit a friend in Sydney next year. What are good cities for short stopovers enroute?

I live in London, UK. Also airline advice would be brilliant too. Could I just buy some kind of multi-stopover ticket? Thank you

  1. Why all the stop overs?? i flew to Singapore stopped for maybe 2 hours then straight into Syders??
  2. I was in Sydney a few years ago, got a great deal with BA and Quantas. Went via Singapore and Magnetic Island (near townsville) on the way and Hong Kong on the way back, for a week at each, was great each way. Magnetic Island is a brilliant little island if you have the time to stay for a couple of nights, with regular ferry from Townsville
  3. Hi, We flew to Cairns in January via Singapore with Qantas. We had a multistop ticket on the way over and it only cost a bit extra. We stayed over for 2 nights and loved it. Singapore is the cleanest place i have ever been. We ate out at the hawkers markets and had 2 curries and beers and it came to £6!!! Unlike the breakfast we had at the hotel that cost £26!!! There is plenty of things to do and see. One day we caught the monorail to Sentosa island and we to the aquarium and a pink dolphin show. It is very easy to get around with the tube and buses and everyone is very helpful. Just be aware of people trying to drag you into shops all the time.
  4. Your cheapest would be to fly here with one stop over. You can get around the world fares that allow up to 5 stop overs some are 3 stop overs and I think some are more. I've flown to London from Australia several times. Each time I stop somewhere. There is Star alliance which has many airlines that belong to it and One world they each use several airlines. I believe star alliance is a little cheaper than one world One world has British airways and qantas plus more and star alliance has Air New Zealand Singapore airlines plus more so you can build up points with say British airways or the airline you go through. I have been to Hong Kong loved it and choose to go again afew years ago I flew Air France and Veitnamese airlines combined and stayed at Ho Chi Minh City that was fabulous a little scary at first because I didn't know that on a stop over they keep your passport until you arrive back for your flight. otherwise i would've had to pay for a visa if I stayed longer than 48 hours I think. but no visa needed for Hongkong. I've stayed in Singapore done that and wouldn't go twice although it was very good. Bangkok that was fabulous until I got sick probably from the water although I tried to be careful. I've never stayed in Dubai which you can if you fly Emirates or Lufthansa you can stay in Germany maybe somewhere else. So the Choice is huge but a stop over is a must in my eyes so shop around then decide what takes your fancy. Don't go to one travel agent try several and see what they offer I believe Lufthansa had some pretty good deals recently and Consider Hong Kong if you can. Good luck
